Research Interests

Vladimer Gamsakhurdia has obtained PhD degree in psychological anthropology from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in July 2016.

At present, He is holding the position of an assistant-professor at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University since September, 2016.

He worked as a research fellow at the university of Fribourg (August-September 2013) and at the university of Basque Country (August, 2014-July, 2016) previously. Also, he spent one semester as a PHD fellow at CHD department, at the university of Chicago (Spring semester, 2014) He is involved in various international cross-cultural research projects as a collaborator or research associate.

Vladimer Gamsakhurdia has been teaching courses in ‘Culture and Psychology’, ‘Self, Social boundaries and Ethnic identity’, ‘Social Psychology’, ‘Intro to Psychology’, ‘Intro to Anthropology’, ‘Intro to Personality Psychology’.

He is interested in the research of interplay between culture and personality and follows cultural psychological theoretical stance. Vladimer Gamsakhurdia has regional expertise in South Caucasus and eastern Europe, especially in the country of Georgia. Vladimer Gamsakhurdia has conducted research on values in Georgian society, Georgians’ ethnic identity and Georgianness in general.

Currently, his research is focused on the idea of dialogicality, sociocultural changes and ‘Self’s’ adaptation to it. Vladimer Gamsakhurdia is also working on the interrelation of main social identities (ethnic; religious) in Georgia.
