Authoritarian Regimes in Times of Crises: Strategies of Post-Soviet Authoritarian Leaders to Create Stability and Legitimacy

Dissertation abstract
This research project looks at how authoritarian regimes manage to preserve power in times of political crises. The research focuses on two types of political crises: succession crisis and mass public protests. A comparative case study method is used to contrast the reactions of post-Soviet authoritarian leaders to political crises. The research project looks at different strategies for power preservation and observes how these strategies change (if at all) over time in response to crises.
