Lara Minkus will stay at BIGSSS as a guest researcher for the summer term 2023

BIGSSS welcomes a new guest researcher, Lara Minkus. She joined BIGSSS in March and will stay with us until the end of September 2023. Lara is not an unfamiliar face to many at BIGSSS, as she received her PhD from BIGSSS in 2018 and remained affiliated as a postdoctoral fellow until September 2022.

Lara, please tell us a bit more about yourself. Where are you from and what are your research interests?

"I am a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in sociology at the University of Flensburg (EUF), where I specialize in gender, family sociology, social inequality, public opinion dynamics, and quantitative methods. Previously, I worked as an interim professor for quantitative methods in empirical social research and social stratification at the University of Flensburg and held positions as a postdoctoral researcher at the German Family Panel (pairfam) and the Data Center of the Research Institute for Social Cohesion at the University of Bremen."

What project are you planning to work on at BIGSSS or are you currently working on and with whom?

"Together with Stefan Wallaschek from the EUF and BIGSSS alumnus, I am currently working on a project looking at whether and how internet use affects attitudes towards gender equality."

What else are you looking forward to during your time at BIGSSS?

"I am looking forward to being part of the vibrant BIGSSS community and learning more about the interesting PhD projects being undertaken by BIGSSS fellows."

What is your field of expertise or on which topics could BIGSSS PhD fellows, postdocs or faculty contact you if they have a question or would like to discuss something with you?

"Most of my work is concerned with gender and inequality, but I am also interested in research on survey methodology and quantitative methods. Please feel free to contact me about any of these topics."

You can find Lara at in the Guest Researchers Office at Unicom House 7, room 7.3020 (BIGSSS @Uni Bremen) or you can contact her via email.
