Heiko Pleines is honored for his professional and encouraging support of doctoral candidates

Heiko Pleines, a member of the BIGSSS faculty for many years, received the award for outstanding doctoral supervision in an online ceremony on July 14, 2021. In the laudation it was emphasized that he is always reliable in his support, allows the freedom for doctoral candidate's own dissertation project, but at the same time also gives friendly pushes. It was also mentioned that he doing exceptionally well in preparing his doctoral fellows for their life after PhD. We join in congratulating him warmly, well done Heiko!

Very close to the first place are two other members of the BIGSSS, Margrit E. Kaufmann and Andreas Breiter. Congratulations to them as well! Keep up the good work!

The Award for Outstanding Doctoral Supervision, worth a total of 4,000 Euro, recognizes university faculty for their professional supervision and encouraging support of doctoral students. The award honors both the demanding task of supervising doctoral students and the exemplary empowerment of young scholars. It is awarded every two years by the University of Bremen in two categories: the arts and social sciences and the natural sciences and engineering. Rolf Drechsler received the Award for Outstanding Doctoral Supervision in the natural sciences and engineering. A total of 59 university teachers were nominated.
