BIGSSS Fellow Janosch Kullenberg's new article provides a novel explanation for peacekeepers' failure to protect civilians more effectively by examining the overlaps between the UN's three major protection agendas. Based on extensive fieldwork at UN headquarters and in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as the analysis of UN Security Council Ressolutions, the empirically rich article particularly focuses on protection measures against Conflict-Related Sexual Violence. It was recently published (December 2020) by "International Peacekeeping" - the leading academic journal on UN interventions that is also influential amongst practitioners.
