On January 25-27, BIGSSS and the University of Hamburg jointly organized an international workshop on "Understanding Solidarity - New Challenges, New Approaches" at the University of Hamburg. 

Andreas Busen (University of Hamburg) and BIGSSS PhD fellow Stefan Wallaschek set up a fascinating program with panels on various aspects of solidarity, with two keynote lectures by Donatella della Porta (SNS Florence) and Andrea Sangiovanni (EUI/KCL), and organised a roundtable on "interdisciplinary perspectives on solidarity" with Alexia Katsanidou (GESIS), Marianne Kneuer (University of Hildesheim), Marius Hildebrand (Goethe University Frankfurt) and Stephan Lessenich (LMU Munich) who discussed current opporrunities and challenges in the research on solidarity.
