The Summer School for Women* in Political Methodology will take place in Bremen from July 20–26, 2025. The event is organized by BIGSSS faculty member Sophia Hunger and Co-funded by BIGSSS.

The application deadline is May 1, 2025 at midnight (CEST). There is a fixed number of spots especially reserved for researchers affiliated with University of Bremen or BIGSSS. Interested PhD students and junior scholars can apply here.

The Summer School is designed for PhD students, as well as post-docs and early-career researchers who identify as women*, and who work in the field of Political Science or related disciplines. Participation in the Summer School requires some prior statistical knowledge, as well as a basic R skills.

The Summer School aims to train researchers who identify as women or non-binary in advanced social science methodology. The 7-day program offers hands-on training on core computational methods, as well as opportunities for networking and collaboration.The program can be found here.

Having taken place for the first time in 2017, this Summer School is part of a larger long-term initiative to increase women participation in this research field where women are typically underrepresented. Following the Visions in Methodology example, we aim to establish a network of women methodologists working in Europe, specifically targeted at providing training, mentorship, and network opportunities as a means of strengthening their career prospects in academia and beyond.

The Summer School is funded by the University of Bremen, particularly, the Chancellor, the High-Profile Area Social Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Data Science Center and the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS). Thus, the participation is free of charge. For applicants external to the University of Bremen, the fellowship includes tuition, accommodation and two dinners. Where no university funding is available, we can contribute up to 250 EUR for travel expenses. Accommodation will be arranged in twin rooms.
