Research Incubators on Data-driven Modeling of Conflicts, Migration, and Social Cohesion

July 04 - July 15, 2022
University of Groningen, Department of Sociology
Groningen (The Netherlands)
Series: BIGSSS Summer & Winter Schools
Event type: public

The 3rd BIGSSS-CSS Summer School takes place from July 4-15, 2022 (postponed from July 2020). The summer school's topic focuses on Social Cohesion and takes place at the Department of Sociology of the University of Groningen (The Netherlands).

The summer school will serve as a research incubator aimed at fostering the use of computational methods in the Social Sciences and developing a topical contribution to research about social cohesion. Eight teams of five people will be working on specific research projects. Each team will consist of three junior researchers (MA/Ph.D./early Postdoc) and two senior experts/supervisors, one with strong methodological expertise in CSS and the other with strong topical expertise in social cohesion or related fields. The goal is to train participating junior researchers in CSS methods and to give them hands-on expertise in a cutting-edge research project on social cohesion using CSS methods. Each team will work through the whole research process with the aim to prepare a manuscript for scientific publication. The resulting output may be published in an edited volume or the special issue of a peer-reviewed journal.
