BIGSSS celebrates 31 graduates of the past two years

On April 15, BIGSSS celebrated its fifth Graduation Day. 31 PhD fellows finished their dissertations over the past two years, 19 of whom were present for their ceremony and were honored for their achievement.

Welcome addresses were held by BIGSSS Dean Olaf Groh-Samberg, the Vice Rector for Research and Young Academics of the University of Bremen Andreas Breiter, the President and CEO of Jacobs University Bremen Katja Windt and BIGSSS Vice Dean Klaus Boehnke.

Jürgen Kaube, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, held the Keynote Speech of the evening on "Public Understanding of Social Science: Why and How?".

The Fellow Address was held by Regina Arant, who handed in her dissertation only a few weeks before the Graduation Day. Regina gave voice to the graduates' experience over the past years, the ups and downs of writing a PhD.

The highlight of the ceremony again was the presentation of graduates by current fellows. Here more than ever, the BIGSSS community gets a sense of what BIGSSS is about next to research projects and publications: a community of aspiring scholars who get to know each other really, really well, support each other and find friends for a lifetime.
