As the programme of choice for many QTA scholars, the event series begins with a brief introduction/recap to R for text analysis on November 21, 2018. This short session with Holger Döring (SOCIUM) and Nico Blocker (SOCIUM) should refresh our memories about R, and provide an overview of the useful functions particularly for Text Analysis. Therefore, we recommend attending this session even if you are a seasoned R user.

On the “Exploring Text as Data: Quantitative Text Analysis” Event Series

Can words be used as data? Social scientists are increasingly faced with large quantities of text – among them electoral manifestos, twitter feeds, press statements and interviews.  Moving beyond traditional, qualitative approaches to analysing them, researchers have started using the huge volumes of text available electronically to their advantage to test theories about the world. SOCIUM and BIGSSS are therefore happy to present the “Exploring Text as Data: Quantitative Text Analysis” event series, to engage with this new frontier of social science research.
