One of BIGSSS‘ founding members, the sociologist Prof. Dr. Walter Heinz, was recently awarded with the German Federal Cross of Merit 1st class (Bundesverdienstkreuz). Nominated by the German Ministry of Education and Research, he will be officially honored by Federal Research Minister Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka on February 3rd, 2016.

The explanatory statement outlines the decision as follows “The award recognizes with great respect your outstanding work in the social sciences. It also prides your contributions in the research on educational pathways and your extraordinary commitment to different bodies of research management and -politics."
