Call for Papers

The conference provides a platform for the presentation of new advances and research results from the fields of interdisciplinary social science. It will bring together researchers, educators, academics and students in the domain of interest from around the world.

The conference aims to discuss and address certain relevant questions related to the area of intergenerational inequalities, such as: How do intergenerational inequalities affect family structures, dynamics and relationships? How do families respond to these inequalities? How do structural factors (such as gender, ethnicity, class, or age) operate and contribute to those inequalities? What macro-level factors could explain cross-national differences regarding this phenomenon? Similarly, at the micro-level, how do individuals perceive and experience those inequalities? Have values and norms among young people changed in response to changing life courses? For instance, can factors like migration contribute to value changes that further affect the family systems? Do these changing life courses affect social cohesion and welfare state values?

Doctoral and post-doctoral researchers from the field of interdisciplinary social sciences are invited to apply for presenting and discussing their research that addresses above outlined or other relevant dimensions of the topic.

Accordingly, abstracts in English language (300-500 words, PDF format) need to be emailed to inequalities-conference2022@bigsss-bremen.de. All abstract submissions are due by July 31, 2022 August 15, 2022. Submissions after the deadline will not be considered.

The abstract should briefly describe the research along with obtained or expected findings. Additionally, it should include a descriptive title of the research as well as name, affiliation and contact information of the corresponding author. Incomplete abstracts will not be considered for the review.

Each abstract will be assessed by the evaluation committee consisting of two postdoctoral researchers, two senior researchers, and two doctoral students from BIGSSS. The evaluation criteria for the papers will be based, among others, on their originality, innovation and scientific rigour. Thus, the evaluation committee will decide on the 12 best paper proposals, aligned to the main conference theme and looking for compatibility to organise Paper sessions of specific thematic streams. The decision will be communicated to the corresponding authors on August 23, 2022.
