BIGSSS welcomes guest professor Lesley Andres

Prof. Lesley Andres will be joining the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) as a guest professor from April 2010 until September 2010. Lesley Andres is professor at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Education. Her research and teaching interests focus on the intersecting domains of participation in post- secondary education, equitable educational opportunities, and the relationship between institutional structures and individuals as agents as well as on quantitative and qualitative research methods.

At the heart of her research program is the Paths on Life’s Way Project – one of the few longitudinal studies of youth transitions in Canada. The research, now spanning more than 15 years, provides a detailed account of individuals’ lives, choices, and post‑secondary education and work experiences across different points in time since high school graduation and in relation to changing social and cultural conditions.

You can find more information on Prof. Andres here.

Andres’ stay is part of a 2-year guest professorship for International Comparative Studies sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The guest professorship is a joint appointment of BIGSSS and the Hanse Institute for Advanced Study (HWK) in Delmenhorst and will be granted to four scientists for one semester each between winter term 2009/2010 and summer term 2011.
