Newcomer Information

After a long application phase, we are happy to welcome the new cohort of Ph.D. and postdoctoral fellows to BIGSSS! For most of you, joining our Graduate School means moving to a new city, country or even continent. The following pages are meant to help you prepare for your new working environment and home, and to ease the transition to Bremen. Please read them carefully and do not hesitate to contact us should you need additional help.

Although we are doing our best to keep the information on our website updated, we cannot vouch for its contents being correct and/or up-to-date. Please consider the following pages as guidelines but make sure to check on whether the information given applies to your individual situation.

The following pages cover topics that you need to deal with on your own, such as housing and legal issues. You might wonder why there is hardly any information on administrational issues. The reason is that many of them will be dealt with by BIGSSS. This covers e.g. your office and its technical setup including computer and internet access, telephone, access to printers and photocopiers,...
We will fill you in on the details once you are here and let you know which additional steps you have to take yourself. To inform you on all these issues, we are going to have an administrational meeting in September where you receive another information package and have the opportunity to meet our staff.

Until then take one step at a time. We are looking forward to having you with us.
