Revisiting Institutional and Life-Course Perspectives on Migration
Bremen, Germany, February 23. – 25., 2012
The joint research group “Migration and Social Inequality” of the Hans Böckler Foundation and the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) is organizing its second international conference on integration. We invite young researchers to present and discuss their research on the following topics
Covering I.ntegration: What is the meaning of family and friendship N.etworks? How are T.ransitions and E.ducational trajectories shaping the life-courses of the first, second and third immigrant G.eneration? What motivates migrants and their children to R.eturn to their (parents’) country of origin? How are different methodological A.pproaches influencing our findings? In how far is a T.ransnational world characterized by mobility and flexibility shaping (multiple) I.dentities? Which role do migrant O.rganizations, multinational companies and institutions play? Are we as researchers uN.covering, constructing or covering up social phenomena?
Participation guidelines and further information
Papers and posters have been selected recently and participants have been informed by e-mail.
To allow for fruitful discussion, each slot will span 45 minutes (15-20 minutes for presentation and 20-25 minutes for discussion). Every presenter will serve as a discussant for one of the other presentations. Therefore, presenters are asked to submit either a full paper (max. 8,000 words) or a working paper (min. 3,000 words) as a basis for discussion. Papers are due by January, 31, 2012 and will be made available to the other participants.
Besides the presentations, there will be a poster session in which further projects will be displayed and discussed.
